Gov. Uduaghan Dissolves State Executive Council …..Granted Pardon to Akatugba and others, Lifts Ban on Youths Activities in Oghara

The Delta State outgoing Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has dissolved the State Executive Council in preparation for Friday [29-5-15] inauguration of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as Governor.

He has also granted pardon to Mr. Moses Akatugba and three others facing death penalty in the state.

Governor Uduaghan who disclosed this Thursday in Asaba during the Valedictory State Executive Council Meeting said the pardon was granted based on a report from the State Prerogative of Mercy Council and reviewed by the State Attorney –General.

“I have granted pardon to Mr Moses Akatugba, I have signed his warrant of release, he was the young man who was sentenced to death when he was 16 years old and his case has been trending on the social media and Amnesty International has also intervened”, DR. Uduaghan said adding “I have also commuted the death sentence of three others to various prison terms”.

He also disclosed that the ban on youth activities in Oghara has been lifted by the state government and charged the youth to maintain the peace and liaise with the traditional institution to work out modalities on how to carry out their activities.

DR. Uduaghan who thanked members of the State Executive Council for their diligence and service to the state charged them to always remain loyal as “loyalty pays, it is not by words of mouth alone, but by your actions”.

He urged them to give their maximum support and cooperation to the incoming Sen. Okowa’s government as he would continue to build on the foundation laid by the PDP government in the state in the last sixteen years.

He explained that the state government has paid about 224 billion naira in the last eight years to the interventionist agency, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission [DESOPADEC] and 19 billion naira as it contributions to the new pension scheme while continuing to fund the old scheme.

In their separate remarks before the dissolution, Professor Amos Utuama, Mr. Joseph Otumara, Queen Ikechukwu and Barr. Odum on behalf of their colleagues thanked Dr. Uduaghan for the opportunity to serve the state as members of the Council which they described and refreshing and enriching.
