Ethiope West LGA has its headquarters at Oghara, a small town throbbing with commercial activities. The LGA with a population of 102,000 people and land area of about 742.5 square kilometres has these communities; Jesse, Oghara, Boboroku, Mosaga, Oku Odobo, Ogharefe, Oghareke, Irode and Jese Town divided into eleven wards and is rich in human, mineral and forestry resources. The name Ethiope is derived from the popular River Ethiope that separates the LGA from Sapele LGA. The LGA is noted for commercial fishing and salt production, and the people are also into timber lumbering and rubber production. The people are of the Urhobo tribe.
