Sports & Recreation

Sports & Recreation.

Delta State is synonymous with Sports, having embarked on a sports revolution aimed at returning the state to the leadership position which the former mid-west region was known. In recent times, hardly any major national sports event has occurred without an impressive and dominant showing of Delta State Sportsmen and Woman.

SCHOOL SPORTS IN DELTA STATE
The governor of delta state has been working towards reviving school sports at the basic, secondary and tertiary school levels. The Initiative, which was spearheaded by the governor through the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education and Chairman Sports Council, is designed as a platform on which students can compete for trophies and prizes, so as to encourage an early appreciation for sports and instil a sense of sportsmanship and healthy competition in school sports.

The present administration stresses the importance of promoting school sports by investing in the provision of quality sport facilities in various schools across the state. This is done with the belief that it will facilitate the early spotting of young talents who with proper training can be groomed to participate in both local and international games.
