History of Delta

Delta state created in august 27th1991 was carved out of former Bendel state by General Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd). The capital city is Asaba located at the northern end of the state while Warri is its commercial nerve centre.

Arts & Traditional Heritage

 The people of Delta are known for their hospitality and accommodating attitude. The major tribes in the State have similar customs, beliefs and tradition; a cultural identity is manifested in their festivals and traditional marriage ceremonies.

Major Festivals

Almost every village celebrates a traditional festival that brings both indigenes and non-indigenes together. Traditional festivals normally come between March and December every year and include Adane Okpe, Iyeri, Edjenu, Okere Juju, Ine, Ulor.

Travel & Tourism

 Delta State has an abundance of historical monuments, a variety of festivals serve as a sight-seeing paradise for tourists. Some of the major attractions include the Chief Osadebe’s Mausoleum etc.

Sports & Recreation

The state government invests in infrastructure such as stadia and training facilities. Other sports and recreational efforts include youth development programs and training courses for the coaching staff and referees.



 

Fact Files

Delta State spans an area of about 18,050 sq. km. Delta North comprises the Asaba (Delta Ibo), Aniocha, Ika, Ukwuani and Ndoisimili regions while Delta Central and South are made up of the Urhobo, Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri regions.
