Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs - Chief Mrs. Betty Oghometite Efekodha

Chief Mrs. Betty Oghometite Efekodha, Hon. Commissioner, Ministry Of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, was born in Warri, Delta State. 

She hails paternally and maternally, from Emevor and Oghara-Iyede, all in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
She is married to Chief (Hon.) Engr. Anthony Onomuefe Efekodha, former Member, Federal House of Representatives and the Ezomo of Enhwe, from the Erebo Ruling House of Enhwe Kingdom.

She attended Mowoe Primary School, Warri, the defunt Mid-West College Effurun, and finished up at our Lady’s High School Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, where she obtained the West Africa School Certificate (W.A.S.C) in 1974.
Chief (Mrs.) Betty Efekodha taught briefly at Torufa Primary School ‘B’ before she gained admission into the College of Education Warri, where she obtained the National Certificate of Education – N.C.E in English Language/ Religious Studies.
She was employed by the Post Primary Education Board, Benin City, in the old Bendel State. She was posted to Otu–Jeremi Secondary School in Ughelli South, where she taught for about two years and was later transferred to Hussey College, Warri where she taught Literature in English and English Language.

The desire for more knowledge spurred her to seek admission into the University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State. She bagged a Bachelors Degree in Education (B Ed. Administration/English) in 1990. She is currently reading for her Masters Degree Programme in Education /Administration, in Delta State University, Abraka.

As a teacher in Hussey College, Warri, she was nominated for training on Population and Family life Education by UNFPA (POPFLE). The main aim is to teach students on future family life so that they can cater for themselves and families. The programme is also on gender mainstreaming.
Chief Mrs. Betty Efekodha, was later transferred to College of Commerce II, Warri, where she taught and rose to the rank of principal I.
As a wife to an active Politician, she became interested in partisan politics. She joined the Forum for Women in Politics and Concerned Deltans for Ibori (CCDI), a political pressure group.
As a very active and loyal card carrying member of the PDP, she was appointed into the following positions - Chairman, Board of Directors, Agency for Adult/Non Formal Education, Delta State(2003-2005). Her time witnessed more enrolment for second chance education as it was given desired publicity, -State Project/Programme Monitor, Delta state- (in charge of Isoko South L.G.A.) During her operational time, most contractors went back to site and most projects were completed, - Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Women Development.
She encouraged women to embark on small and medium scales enterprises, including farming. She Co-ordinated the Agriculture (ACGF) counterpart funding loans program to over 100 women, with Central Bank/First Bank and Delta Women in Agriculture (DELWA).
A great mobilizer of women especially in politics. Her time witnessed more women appointees into governance by his Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.
She was also a member of the 13-man Screening Committee of Commissioners during the second tenure of His Excellency, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former Governor of Delta State. Chief Mrs. Betty Efekodha, is the National Co-ordinator of the G3 (Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri), the Vice-President General of the Uduaghan Ladies Vanguard and the State Co-ordinator, Women for Change Initiative Nigeria.

She has served in various capacities as a very loyal PDP member in the State and at National level- Supervisor, PDP National Membership Registration Exercise, Imo State (2005), State PDP Assistant Welfare Officer, Senatorial Co-ordinator, PDP Gubernatorial Campaign Organization (2003). PDP State Campaign Organization- Women mobilization (2007-2011). Director, Women Mobilization- Uduaghan Campaign Organization (2011).


Chief Mrs. Betty Efekodha has bagged several awards and Tittles:
1. The Urhukpe (Light) of Enhwe kingdom)
2. Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria Merit Award
3. Fellow FCIA; FICA; Member, Delta State Committee of Convention on Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Delta State Focal person, West African Women Association (WAWA), amongst others.
4. Distinguished Nigerian Women Merit Awards
5. Ambassador of Peace on Women Empowerment
She is immediate past Presidency of the famous Ewheyae Isoko Association Nigeria (International) Warri Branch, where she carried out humanitarian services and also built a borehole (water services) for the students of Enhwe Comprehensive High School, Enhwe.
She is Christian and blessed with six lovely children by the grace of God.
